Immigration Service trains officers ahead of nationwide e-visa rollout

The Ghana Immigration Service has begun training officers across the country ahead of the nationwide rollout of Ghana’s new electronic visa (e-visa) system scheduled for May 25, 2026.

The two-day training programme, being held in Accra, involves 40 officers drawn from immigration control points nationwide and forms part of preparations to operationalise the fully digital visa platform.

The system will allow foreign nationals seeking entry into Ghana to apply for and complete visa processes online.

According to the GIS, the e-visa initiative is expected to improve accessibility, speed up passenger processing, and strengthen border security management while modernising Ghana’s immigration system.

Opening the training session, Acting Deputy Comptroller-General of Immigration in charge of Command Post and Operations, Faisal Disu, described the initiative as “a new way of working, anchored on transparency and accountability.”

He urged participating officers to demonstrate professionalism, discipline, and commitment in handling the digital platform, stressing that the credibility and success of the system would depend heavily on the conduct of officers operating it.

Mr Disu explained that the e-visa platform would generate traveller information critical to national security, intelligence sharing, economic planning, and international cooperation.

“Accuracy, security, and the responsible use of data are non-negotiable,” he stated.

He further noted that the platform would serve as the first point of interaction between Ghana and many foreign visitors, adding that a transparent and user-friendly system would help improve Ghana’s image among investors, tourists, and business travellers.

Participants in the training are expected to undergo practical sessions on system workflow management, monitoring procedures, document verification processes, audit trails, and online payment operations.

The GIS management also assured that integrity and accountability mechanisms would be strictly enforced, warning that breaches would attract sanctions in accordance with immigration regulations and national laws.
