Ho Central Mosque reopens after months of closure

Muslims in Ho Zongo have resumed worship at the Ho Central Mosque following its reopening by the National Chief Imam on Saturday, October 10, after several months of closure.

The mosque was closed indefinitely following violent clashes over a leadership dispute, which resulted in a shooting incident that left 13 people injured.

Although the reopening has allowed Muslims to return to the mosque for prayers, the leadership dispute remains unresolved. This has raised concerns about the possibility of further violence if the underlying issues are not addressed.

Speaking in an interview, Ho Zongo youth leader Mohammed Salisu Kidzah welcomed the reopening but stressed that those responsible for the shooting must be held accountable.

“We are happy for the reopening. There were a lot of people here in the morning celebrating the reopening. As for the shooting incident, it is a matter of the law and we will pursue it to the latter and we want the law to take its course.

“We don’t know what will happen next if we don’t follow it to the latter because it wasn’t the first time they came to shoot at the mosque. We want peace and the National Chief Imam called for peace when he was here.”

Mr Kidzah said the community welcomed the return of worship and wanted peace to prevail. However, he stressed the need for the law to take its course over the shooting incident to help prevent similar events in the future.

The reopening of the mosque marks an important step towards restoring normal worship in Ho Zongo, but resolving the leadership dispute remains crucial to maintaining lasting peace in the community.
