SEKCO PTA to petition WAEC over 154 students barred from Chemistry exam

The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of Sekondi College (SEKCO) says it plans to petition the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to allow 154 students who were unable to sit for their Chemistry Theory and Objective examination on Wednesday to take the paper.

According to the PTA, the students were prevented from entering the examination hall because they arrived late.

The delay was reportedly caused by heavy rainfall that affected movement across the Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis that morning.

The Chairperson of the SEKCO PTA, Mercy Dadzie, said parents would also seek the support of the Western Regional Minister to help address the situation.

She explained that some of the affected students, including her own child, arrived at the examination centre only a few minutes after the paper had started.

However, an external invigilator refused to allow them into the examination hall.

Mrs. Dadzie appealed to WAEC to consider the future of the affected students and give them another chance to write the examination.

“There is a law governing examinations. Even if the children were late, they should have been allowed to write the paper, with the lost time deducted from their examination period. They could also have been sanctioned for the lateness.

“They would have had the opportunity to attempt the questions and earn some marks. We are pleading with WAEC to help us. This concerns the future of these children,” she said.
