The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has directed its members to immediately halt all activities that could be construed as premature parliamentary campaigning or risk disciplinary action and severe sanctions.
The directive was contained in a statement issued on Monday, September 14, 2026, and signed by the party’s General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey.
It follows deliberations by the party’s Functional Executive Committee (FEC) on campaign-related activities involving members seeking parliamentary nominations in various constituencies.
The NDC cautioned members against organising or taking part in meetings, engagements, tours, donations, public appearances, or any other activities designed or reasonably perceived to promote or advance a parliamentary candidature before the official opening of nominations.
The party described such activities as premature and warned that they could undermine its unity, cohesion, and orderly functioning.
Members who fail to comply with the directive will face disciplinary action and severe sanctions in accordance with the party’s Constitution, rules, and regulations.
Regional, constituency, branch, and other party officers have also been tasked with ensuring compliance and reporting any breaches to the appropriate authorities.
According to the NDC, the directive is aimed at ensuring an orderly process for selecting its parliamentary candidates while preserving transparency and credibility.
The party said it would announce the opening of nominations and the relevant guidelines at the appropriate time.
It also urged members to follow established procedures and maintain discipline until the formal nomination process commences.
The directive comes as the NDC steps up preparations for its internal electoral processes ahead of the 2028 general elections.
