Professor Jerome Siau Djangmah, a prominent figure in Ghana’s academic and educational sphere, has died at the age of 88.
The announcement was formally communicated to the media in a statement dated May 26, 2026, signed by Dr Addo Djangmah on behalf of the mourning family.
As per the family’s statement, the esteemed academic and public servant passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 23, 2026.
Prof. Djangmah’s career spanned decades of dedicated service at leading educational institutions in Ghana and West Africa.
He leaves a legacy characterised by integrity and excellence, having held numerous prominent leadership positions, including:
- Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES).
- Chairman of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
- Chairman of the Governing Council at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW).
- Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast (UCC).
- Head of the Department of Zoology at both the University of Ghana (UG) and the University of Cape Coast (UCC).
Visitation and Funeral Arrangements
The Djangmah family has opened their doors to well-wishers, colleagues, and the public for visitations at the family residence located at No. 5 Oleander Street, Teshie Nungua Estate, Accra.
Visitations will take place between 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM on the following dates:
Saturday, May 30 and Sunday, May 31
Wednesday, June 3
Saturday, June 6 and Sunday, June 7
Wednesday, June 10
Saturday, June 13
The family noted that further details regarding the final funeral arrangements will be communicated to the public in due course.
