A fire has destroyed a warehouse in the South Industrial Area of Accra, though no injuries or deaths were reported.

The incident occurred on Saturday, April 18, and affected a top-floor warehouse in a one-storey building owned by Believe in God Company, which deals in plastic disposable products.

In a Facebook post, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) said the fire was reported at 6:10 p.m., and firefighters from the Industrial Area Fire Station arrived at the scene within six minutes.

Additional crews from the National Headquarters, Accra City, Trade Fair, and Madina Fire Stations joined the operation, along with a turn-table ladder from Tema.

Firefighters managed to contain the blaze by 10:23 p.m., brought it under control by 11:28 p.m., and fully extinguished it by 11:47 p.m.

The fire partially destroyed plastic materials stored in the warehouse and damaged the top floor of the building. However, the ground floor, nearby shops, and surrounding structures were successfully protected, preventing further spread.

“Multiple plastic disposable materials were partially burnt, and the top floor of the warehouse was also damaged by the fire. However, firefighters successfully salvaged the ground floor, adjoining shops, and nearby structures, preventing further spread,” GNFS posted.

No injuries or fatalities were recorded.

The GNFS said the cause of the fire is yet to be determined, adding that investigations are underway.

It urged the public, particularly business owners and warehouse operators, to strictly adhere to fire safety protocols to prevent similar incidents.

“Investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire. The GNFS urged the public, particularly business and warehouse operators, to strictly adhere to fire safety protocols,” GNFS urged.
