A catastrophic fire has ravaged a 25-room residence in Assin Akropong, located within the Assin Fosu Municipality of the Central Region, rendering a family and several tenants homeless.
The property’s caretaker, 54-year-old Ama Aboagyewaa, stated that she was on her way back from Assin Fosu when she received an urgent call notifying her that the house was ablaze.
She reported that most of the residents were away at the time of the incident, with only one individual present.
While there were no reported casualties, the fire obliterated nearly all possessions within the house, including household appliances, mattresses, clothing, and other valuables amounting to thousands of Ghana cedis.
Mrs. Aboagyewaa mentioned that some community members were able to rescue the sole occupant and recover a few items before the flames consumed the building.
She remarked that personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) arrived at the scene but encountered difficulties in extinguishing the fire due to a lack of water.
In the meantime, the Assin Fosu Municipal Fire Officer, DOI Paul Tawiah, indicated that an investigation has been initiated to ascertain the cause of the fire.
He urged residents to promptly report fire incidents to allow firefighters to respond quickly and reduce damage.
Officials from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), led by the Assin Fosu Municipal Director, Lawrence Darkwah Monney, subsequently visited the site to evaluate the extent of the damage.
Mr. Monney assured the affected individuals that a report had been forwarded to the Regional Office to facilitate the necessary assistance for those displaced by the incident.
