Six students sustained minor injuries after attempting to extinguish a fire that engulfed the House Master’s apartment at Leklebi Senior High School in the Volta Region, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has said.
In a Facebook post, the Service said the fire broke out on Tuesday, July 21, prompting a swift response from firefighters at the Hohoe Fire Station.
According to the GNFS, it received a distress call at 4:21 p.m., after which a firefighting team led by the Hohoe Municipal Fire Commander, DO III Bismark Hosu-Porbley, was immediately dispatched to the school.
When firefighters arrived, they found the House Master’s apartment, located on the top floor, completely engulfed in flames.
The crew quickly brought the fire under control, preventing it from spreading to other buildings on the school campus.
The GNFS said six male students suffered minor injuries while trying to put out the fire before firefighters arrived at the scene.
In total, eight people required medical attention following the incident.
The Service explained that a male and a female occupant of the affected apartment collapsed after learning about the fire.
All eight victims were treated at the hospital and later discharged.
