Nana Kwabena Nsia Ababio, who was enstooled in 1937 and acknowledged as the longest-serving Paramount Chief in Asanteman, has been destooled by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
The announcement was made during a meeting of the Asanteman Traditional Council on Monday, July 27, 2026.
Having held the Kenyase II stool for 89 years, Nana Kwabena Nsia Ababio’s reign encompassed several generations within the Asante Kingdom.
According to the proceedings of the Traditional Council, the destoolment was associated with breaches of Asante customs and traditions.
Most of his kingmakers were also destooled after being found to have violated their oath of office.
However, the Asantehene chose to spare the Kontihene and reinstated the destooled Akyeame and other linguists of the traditional council.
