A distribution truck transporting a large amount of household items was entirely consumed by fire at Fosu Habitat, a suburb of Assin Fosu in the Central Region.
The vehicle, a Tata truck, was filled with various products, including cartons of insecticides, mosquito sprays, candles, batteries, and air fresheners.
According to eyewitness accounts, the truck’s crew had halted in the area to make a delivery when the incident took place.
Upon their arrival, they observed a damaged metal component on the vehicle and sought the assistance of a local welder, identified as Master Kenneth, to perform the necessary repairs.
Tragedy ensued when sparks from the welding apparatus reportedly ignited the highly flammable items stored inside the truck.
The fire spread quickly, with witnesses reporting multiple explosions emanating from within the vehicle. Despite the attempts by residents to douse the flames using fire extinguishers, the fire rapidly consumed the truck and its entire load.
Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service eventually arrived at the scene and managed to control the blaze, but not before the vehicle and its contents were destroyed.
Sales personnel present at the scene were visibly upset as they witnessed the complete loss.
Master Kenneth, the welder, conveyed profound regret regarding the incident, characterising it as a heartbreaking and unfortunate accident.
Officials from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), led by Assin Fosu District Director Lawrence Darkwa (aka Monney), visited the location to evaluate the damage and confirm the cause of the fire.
Mr. Darkwa issued a strong warning to the public, urging citizens to exercise extreme caution when engaging in welding activities or handling open flames, particularly in proximity to combustible materials or vehicles loaded with flammable goods.
