Police arrest two suspected robbers in Ashaiman

The police have arrested two persons after being found with automobile spare parts believed to have been stolen during a dawn patrol operation at the Ashaiman Roundabout.

The suspects, named John Atsu and Puplampu Jonathan, were taken into custody at approximately 2:55 a.m. on June 16, 2026, by a police patrol team under the leadership of Chief Inspector Prosper K. Amponsah.

According to a police report, the patrol team was conducting routine night operations when officers stopped a taxi cab filled with numerous automobile spare parts at a location on the Ashaiman Roundabout.

A search of the vehicle revealed a box of clutch boosters, two boxes of fuel injectors, two boxes of mounting top lights, and a pair of headlights.

The police stated that the two persons could not provide satisfactory explanations or documentation to prove ownership of the items when questioned, which raised suspicions that the spare parts might have been stolen.

The recovered items have been retained as evidence for further investigations, and photographs have been taken to support the inquiry.

The suspects have been cautioned, and their statements have been recorded separately. They remain in police custody, assisting investigators.

The police have also instructed the arresting officers to submit detailed accounts of the operation as part of the ongoing investigation.

Investigators are anticipated to visit the suspected crime scene and pursue additional leads to identify and apprehend any other individuals who may be connected to the suspected theft and possession of the recovered items.

In the meantime, the police are urging members of the public who may possess information regarding the ownership of the recovered automobile spare parts to come forward to aid in the investigations.

The suspects are expected to be processed in accordance with the law as investigations proceed.
