The Ghana Police Service has begun investigations into a shooting incident at Sayerano in the Juaboso District of the Western North Region that resulted in the death of two people.
According to a statement issued by the Western North Regional Police Command on July 7, 2026, calm has been restored in the community following the incident, while investigations have started to establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Preliminary findings from the Police indicate that a confrontation occurred between some residents of Sayerano and a police patrol team.
During the incident, three people sustained gunshot injuries.
Two of the victims later died from their injuries, while the third victim is currently receiving medical treatment at the Asafo Roman Catholic Hospital.
Following the incident, all eight police officers who were involved have been interdicted.
The move is to allow for an independent investigation into the actions of the officers and determine what led to the shooting.
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has also directed the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) to conduct a full investigation into the matter.
The Police Professional Standards Bureau is responsible for investigating complaints and incidents involving police conduct to ensure accountability and professionalism within the service.

The Western North Regional Police Command expressed appreciation to traditional authorities, community leaders, and other stakeholders for their support in maintaining peace after the incident.
The Command assured residents and the general public that the investigation would be conducted thoroughly and fairly.
It added that any new developments would be communicated to the public as the process continues.
