At least three people have reportedly died from electrocution at Alajo in the Ayawaso Central Municipality of the Greater Accra Region after heavy rains caused severe flooding in the area.
The incident happened on Monday morning, June 29, after a heavy downpour flooded many homes and damaged property in several parts of Accra.
The victims, believed to be between their mid-20s and early 30s, were reportedly trying to save their belongings after floodwaters entered their homes. They were electrocuted while moving through the floodwater.
Residents said the flooding trapped many families in their homes. Some people had no choice but to walk through the floodwater to rescue their personal items before the tragic incident happened.
The deaths add to the growing impact of the heavy rains, which have disrupted traffic, forced many people to leave their homes, and caused serious flooding in several communities across the Greater Accra Region.
