Court adjourns case involving Agya Koo’s base movement to may 15

The High Court in Accra has adjourned to May 15, 2026, the ongoing legal dispute involving the group associated with veteran Ghanaian actor Agya Koo and the Base Movement, following proceedings that could not be fully heard on Monday.

The case centres on a disagreement between two factions, the Base Movement and Base Ghana First LBG, over the use of the “Base” name, branding, and associated identity.

The matter before the court involves claims of name usage rights, organisational control, and allegations that the continued use of the disputed name by one faction is confusing the public and stakeholders.

Court filings indicate that the dispute stems from internal disagreements that led to a split within the original group.

Following the separation, a breakaway faction reportedly continued operating under a similar name, prompting the opposing side to seek legal intervention to protect what it describes as its official identity and structure.

During Monday’s sitting, the case was called but could not proceed substantively due to procedural matters, leading the presiding judge to adjourn the hearing to May 15 for continuation.

Although the court did not delve into full arguments on the day, the presence of key representatives from both sides signalled the seriousness of the dispute.

Members and supporters aligned with the movement were present in court as proceedings unfolded, reflecting the growing public interest in the matter.

The court is expected to resume full hearing on May 15, when both parties will return to present further arguments and evidence as the matter progresses.
