The Appointments Committee of Parliament will on Thursday, August 27, 2026, begin the vetting of two ministerial nominees and three nominees for appointment to the Supreme Court.
Among those scheduled to appear before the committee is outgoing Majority Leader and Chairman of Parliament’s Business Committee, Mahama Ayariga.
He has been nominated by President John Dramani Mahama to serve as Minister-designate for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.
Mahama Ayariga is expected to appear before the committee at 9:00 a.m. in Committee Rooms 1 and 2 of Parliament’s Administration Block.
The committee will also vet Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, who has been nominated as Minister-designate for Environment, Science and Technology.
Following the ministerial nominees, the committee will turn its attention to three individuals nominated for appointment to the Supreme Court.
They are Justice Sophia Rosetta Oduokuma Bernasko Essah, Justice Edward Amoako Asante and Mr Anthony Forson Jnr.
The vetting programme was announced in a memorandum issued by Parliament on Tuesday, August 25, outlining the schedule for the nominees.
The exercise forms part of Parliament’s constitutional responsibility to scrutinise presidential nominations before they are considered for approval.
The nominees are expected to respond to questions from members of the committee on their experience, qualifications, proposed roles and issues relating to their respective portfolios or judicial responsibilities.
The vetting of Mr Ayariga comes as he prepares to leave his leadership position in Parliament for a ministerial role in the Mahama administration.
His nomination is therefore expected to attract considerable attention as lawmakers assess his suitability for the Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs portfolio.
The five nominees will subsequently await the committee’s recommendations before the nominations proceed to the next stage of parliamentary consideration.
