W/R: Police arrest 2 over Agenda 111 Hospital air conditioner theft

Two suspects have been arrested for allegedly attempting to steal air conditioners from the Agenda 111 Hospital at Bokoro in the Ahanta West Municipality of the Western Region.

The suspects were reportedly caught while trying to remove air conditioning units installed at the yet-to-be operationalised hospital facility.

Details surrounding the arrest remain limited, but the suspects are expected to assist authorities with investigations into the alleged offence.

The Agenda 111 hospital project is part of the Nana Addo Danquah-led government initiative in 2023 to improve access to healthcare across the country by providing new hospital facilities in various districts and municipalities.

Despite being commissioned before the previous administration left office, the facility has yet to open its doors to patients, putting severe strain on existing local health centres.

Minister of Health Kwabena Mintah Akandoh inspected the site and reported that substantial funding is still needed for final construction touches and complete equipment installation.

The vacant and uncompleted status of the property has left it vulnerable.

Residents have expressed concern over attempts by individuals to damage or steal equipment meant to serve the public after the neglect of the facility by the government.

Security officials are expected to conduct further investigations to determine whether the suspects acted alone or were part of a wider group involved in similar activities.

Meanwhile, the suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.
