A 37-year-old herbalist and self-acclaimed spiritualist, Enock Antwi, popularly known as Nana Kakali, has been remanded in police custody for two weeks over the alleged theft of a Hyundai Atos taxi at Assin Manso in the Central Region.
Police say Antwi, who is based at Wassa Nkran, was arrested at his hideout in Agona Swedru on August 23, 2026, during an intelligence-led operation by the Cybercrime Unit of the Central North Regional Police Command.
The taxi, belonging to driver Benjamin Akyerefi Baidoo, alias Nana Maaley, was allegedly stolen on July 17 after Antwi was left to watch over the vehicle while the driver completed a delivery.
When the driver returned, both Antwi and the taxi were reportedly gone. The vehicle, registered GT 6165-21, was later recovered intact at a scrap site in Suhum.
According to police, Antwi admitted stealing the taxi and selling it to scrap dealers for GH¢7,000, although he had initially received GH¢2,500.
Investigators traced and arrested him using court-authorised telecommunications data from MTN Ghana.
Antwi appeared before the Assin Fosu District Court, where he reportedly pleaded for leniency, calling the alleged theft a “mistake.”
The court, presided over by His Worship Abdul Majid Iliasu, remanded him for two weeks to allow investigators to complete their work.
He is scheduled to reappear on September 8, 2026. The victim has since commended the Central North Regional Cybercrime Unit for its swift response and the recovery of his taxi.
