A 24-year-old farmer has been convicted and fined GH¢7,200 for stealing quantities of Akpeteshie valued at thousands of cedis from a trader in the Ashanti Region.
The convict, Dauda Ibrahim, also known as Yaro, was sentenced by the Nsuta Circuit Court on Tuesday after CCTV footage helped establish his involvement in the repeated theft of the locally produced alcoholic drink.
The court, presided over by Justice Simon Nketiah Gagah, found Ibrahim guilty of the offence and imposed a fine of GH¢7,200.
The court further ruled that he would serve three years in prison if he failed to pay the fine.
According to the case, Ibrahim was linked to a series of thefts involving Akpeteshie belonging to a trader in the area.
The CCTV recordings reportedly captured activities connected to the thefts and became a key piece of evidence in the case.
The footage helped investigators trace Ibrahim’s involvement and supported the prosecution’s case against him.
Ibrahim’s alleged accomplice, who is believed to have been involved in the thefts, has not yet been arrested and remains at large.
The police are expected to continue efforts to locate the suspect and bring him before the court to face the appropriate charges.
