GPHA halts Kpone Terminal operations after freight forwarders protest

The Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) has suspended activities at the Kpone Terminal indefinitely, following a protest by transit freight forwarders at the Tema Port.

The decision was confirmed by the President of the Transit Freight Forwarders Association, William Ababio, in an interview.

The freight forwarders had earlier demonstrated against what they described as a unilateral decision by the Authority to relocate transit containers to Kpone without prior consultation with key stakeholders.

According to the operators, the move disrupted their operations and weakened established coordination within the port logistics chain.

They have therefore called for increased stakeholder engagement, stressing that decisions of such magnitude should involve prior consultations with industry players.
