The Tema Regional Police Command has arrested a 49-year-old trader, Issaka Mohammed, for allegedly possessing 37 slabs of compressed dried plant material believed to be Indian hemp.
The arrest was executed by the Ashaiman District Police on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at approximately 11:30 p.m.
According to a statement from the police, the arrest was made following intelligence received by Motorbike Patrol officers regarding a suspected Indian hemp dealer operating in a “ghetto” behind the New Tulaku Cow Market.
The officers proceeded to the location and intercepted a sack in Mohammed’s possession.
A search of the sack reportedly resulted in the discovery of the 37 slabs of compressed dried plant material suspected to be Indian hemp.
The exhibits were counted in the presence of the suspect and retained by the Police as evidence.
Mohammed is currently assisting with investigations and is anticipated to be presented before the court as soon as practicable.
The Tema Regional Police Command has urged the public to continue providing credible information on individuals involved in the possession, sale, and distribution of Indian hemp and other illicit drugs to support efforts in combating drug-related offences.
