Ibrahim Kailani Kpa, alias “Powder Guy”, a social media influencer and tiler from Oyarifa-Teiman in Accra, has denied charges of defrauding seven people of $32,000 under the pretext of securing visas for them.
The prosecution told an Accra Circuit Court that between 2023 and 2026, Kpa advertised on TikTok and Facebook that he could secure visas for people seeking to travel to Nicaragua, Canada and the United States in search of greener pastures.
He also advertised slots for the 2026 FIFA World Cup at what he described as affordable rates.
The complainants allegedly paid between $2,000 and $9,000 each, totalling $32,000, after contacting Kpa at his business centre in Botwe.
He allegedly promised to secure their visas within two weeks to one month, but months passed without the visas being obtained.
Kpa allegedly later became unreachable and blocked the complainants. They reported the matter to the police, leading to his arrest at East Legon.
During investigations, Kpa allegedly admitted receiving the $32,000 and told investigators he had given the money to alleged accomplices identified as Jalil, Chapman, and Danlad.
He reportedly said they failed to secure the visas and went into hiding, but he could not lead investigators to their locations.
When Kpa appeared in court, his lawyer applied for bail, which the prosecution opposed because investigations were ongoing.
The Court granted him bail of GH¢400,000 with three sureties and ordered him to report to the case investigator as directed.
The police said investigations are continuing.
