25-year-old man arrested for attempted robbery in Ashanti Region

Police in the Ashanti Region have arrested a 25-year-old man in connection with an alleged attempted armed robbery on the Hiakose-Newense road in the Manso Nkwanta District.

The suspect, identified as Francis Nsiah, was arrested after he sought medical treatment for a gunshot wound he allegedly sustained during the incident on Friday, August 7, 2026.

According to the Nkawie Divisional Police Command, its patrol team received a distress call around 11:00 p.m. about an armed robbery in progress on the Hiakose-Newense stretch.

Police officers who responded to the call said they heard gunshots as they approached the area.

The officers reportedly saw one of the suspected robbers running into a nearby bush with a bag and chased him.

A search of the area later led to the recovery of an iPhone 14 and a bag believed to belong to some of the victims.

Police subsequently received information that one of the suspected robbers had gone to a health facility for treatment after sustaining a gunshot wound.

Officers went to the facility and arrested Nsiah.

He was found with a gunshot wound on the left side of his buttock and is currently receiving treatment under police guard.

The Nkawie Divisional Police Command says investigations are ongoing to establish what happened and identify and arrest other suspects believed to have been involved in the attempted robbery.
