Nana Akomea explains absence from NPP swearing-in ceremony

Newly elected NPP Third Vice Chairperson Nana Akomea has rejected claims that he intentionally stayed away from the party’s swearing-in ceremony because he was unhappy with his third-place finish.

According to Nana Akomea, heavy traffic delayed his arrival at the venue, and by the time he got to the stadium, the ceremony had already ended.

He explained that he arrived about 10 minutes after the newly elected executives had been sworn into office.

Nana Akomea said he was not at the venue when voting ended or when the ballots were being counted and results collated. He only learnt of his position through his agents after reaching the stadium.

“My agents were there, and when I got there, the swearing had been done. So, I knew I had taken the third position, and I was rushing to go for the swearing-in,” he explained.

He also dismissed suggestions that his absence, as well as that of fellow candidate Nana B, was connected to the election results.

Nana Akomea said he believed Nana B had also been delayed by traffic. He recalled seeing him when the candidates were introduced but said they did not meet again until the following afternoon.

Despite arriving late, Nana Akomea remained at the stadium and expressed confidence that arrangements would be made for him to be formally sworn in.

He, however, admitted that the third-place result was disappointing, insisting that his campaign message had received strong support from delegates.

The former broadcaster also acknowledged that campaign spending may have influenced the outcome, conceding that some candidates could have outspent others during the contest.
