EOCO case is a political witch-hunt – Baffour Awuah

Manhyia South Member of Parliament Nana Adjei Baffour Awuah has rejected allegations levelled against him by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), describing his arrest and interrogation as a political witch-hunt.

Speaking after being granted bail, the MP insisted that the case would not stop him from speaking on national issues. He challenged the prosecution to take its evidence to court instead of attempting to establish its case through public commentary.

Nana Baffour Awuah maintained that he had done nothing wrong and said he was confident that the allegations would not stand up to scrutiny in court.

“No debt can stick on me… Come to court and come and prove that whatever you are alleging amounts to guilt on my part,” he said.

The MP also accused his critics of trying to create a perception of guilt despite what he described as a lack of sufficient evidence. He said he remained in good spirits throughout his time in custody.

He thanked former Vice President and NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for visiting his mother and providing emotional support during the period.

He also expressed gratitude to the NPP leadership, his colleagues in Parliament and constituents of Manhyia South for standing by him.

Nana Baffour Awuah assured his constituents that his commitment to them remained unchanged.

The High Court granted him GH¢10 million bail with two sureties, after EOCO arrested and questioned him. The court ruled that he was not a flight risk but directed him to remain available to investigators as the probe continues.

He is scheduled to appear before the court again on October 26 and November 2, 2026.
His lawyer, Samuel Atta Akyea, had urged the court to grant him bail on his own recognisance, citing his status as a sitting MP and lawyer. He also told the court that the MP voluntarily reported to EOCO on October 1, accompanied by his lawyers.
