The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMeT) has issued a warning regarding additional rainfall expected later in the day across both coastal and inland regions, advising residents in flood-prone areas to remain vigilant.
Speaking in an interview, Joseph Tetteh Portuphy, the Deputy Director responsible for Forecasting at GMeT, indicated that weather conditions might temporarily improve between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. as a weather system passes through, but further rainfall is anticipated later in the day.
He cautioned that the predicted rainfall could exacerbate already saturated grounds and lead to flooding in susceptible communities.
“Over the coast and inland areas… but for us on the eastern coast, since it is a system that is passing, later in the day, it will come down. Places are already flooded. Any little rain that will come again will flood the places. So we should be cautious and avoid places that are already saturated and already flooded,” he said in an interview monitored by The Ghana Report on Citi News.
Mr. Portuphy urged residents to steer clear of flood-prone regions and adhere to official weather advisories, emphasising that Ghana is currently experiencing the peak of the rainy season.
“We should also make sure that they stay tuned to the weather information. As I said, we are still in June. And until we get out of June, we should expect more of these rains to come,” he added.
