The Minority in Parliament is demanding a full account of the GH¢58.9 million government says it spent on Ghana’s participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Minority is also asking government to account for about GH¢115 million reportedly raised through a fundraising campaign for the Black Stars.
Ranking Member of Parliament for the Youth and Sports Committee, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, said the Minority wants a reconciliation of all funds received from government, private individuals and corporate organisations.
He said the account should indicate the amounts received, dates of payments, accounts used, beneficiaries, expenditure and any balance remaining after the tournament.
“These contributions cannot simply disappear into a general pool without accountability,” Mr Assafuah said.
He added that individuals and companies that contributed to the team had a right to know how their money was used.
The demand follows an earlier disclosure by Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams on the government’s expenditure for Ghana’s participation in the tournament.
