The Ghana Police Service has arrested a 22-year-old man, Evans Puplampu, for allegedly causing fear and panic through a viral social media video in which he posed as a bandit and issued threatening remarks.

The video, which circulated widely on TikTok, showed the suspect with his face covered, accompanied by a caption that read: “We are starting from Ghana churches”.

The post quickly gained traction online, sparking widespread concern among the public.

According to the Ghana Police Service, the arrest followed sustained intelligence gathering and surveillance operations aimed at identifying the individual behind the video.

Puplampu was apprehended on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at Ashaiman Community 22 in the Greater Accra Region.

During interrogation, the suspect admitted to being the person featured in the video. He told investigators that he had imitated a similar trending pose on social media “for fun” and insisted he had no intention of causing harm or inciting panic.

However, authorities say the content of the video and its potential impact on public safety could not be taken lightly.

Police also retrieved a Samsung Galaxy A15 believed to have been used in recording and sharing the video. The device has since been retained as evidence to support ongoing investigations.

Puplampu remains in police custody and is expected to be arraigned before court in the coming days as investigations continue.
