GES warns public over false BECE placement claim

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has warned the public against a fake notice claiming that the 2026 school selection exercise for Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates began on June 15.

In a statement issued on June 14, the Service described the circulating information as false and urged students, parents, teachers and guardians to ignore it.

According to the GES, it has not yet announced the start of the school selection process for candidates preparing for placement into senior high schools.

The fake notice, which has been widely shared on social media and other platforms, claimed that BECE candidates were required to choose and submit five preferred schools ahead of the placement exercise.

It also stated that there was no deadline for submissions and encouraged candidates and parents to seek assistance through an unofficial WhatsApp contact.

The GES said the publication did not come from the Service and should not be treated as authentic information.

Officials stressed that any updates relating to school selection and placement would be communicated through recognised GES channels and other approved government platforms.

The Service also cautioned the public against engaging with individuals behind the false announcement or sharing personal details through unofficial channels.

According to the GES, such misinformation could expose unsuspecting people to scams, fraud and other forms of exploitation.

The Service therefore advised parents, guardians and candidates to verify all education-related information before acting on it.

It further encouraged stakeholders to rely only on official announcements from the GES and other authorised education institutions for accurate updates on the school placement process.
