Manchester City are preparing to make another attempt to sign Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernández, with the Argentina international reportedly open to a move to the club.
The latest development has increased speculation over Fernández’s future at Stamford Bridge, with City expected to submit a formal proposal to Chelsea as they look to strengthen their midfield before the transfer window closes.
According to reports, Fernández has opened the door to a move to Manchester and is willing to consider working under manager Enzo Maresca.
The two worked together at Chelsea, where Maresca played an important role in Fernández’s development and used him regularly in midfield.
City’s renewed interest comes after the club failed to submit a bid before an earlier deadline set by Chelsea. The Blues had reportedly placed a £120 million valuation on Fernández, but City did not meet the deadline.
Chelsea had subsequently expected the midfielder to remain at the club.
However, City have not abandoned their pursuit and are now preparing a fresh approach. Reports suggest the club could test Chelsea’s resolve with a formal offer before the transfer window closes.
Chelsea’s position remains clear. The London club would consider selling Fernández only if the financial package is attractive enough and they can find a suitable replacement to maintain the strength of their squad.
Fernández joined Chelsea from Benfica in January 2023 for a deal worth £106.8 million. He has since become an important figure for the club and has also established himself as a key player for Argentina after helping the country win the 2022 FIFA World Cup and reaching the final in 2026.
The midfielder was left on the bench for Chelsea’s Premier League opener against Fulham before coming on during the 3-2 victory, adding further attention to the transfer story.
