Pedri credits Flick for tactical and mentality shift at Barcelona

Pedri has praised new Barcelona coach Hansi Flick for changing both his playing role and the team’s overall mindset, saying the German manager has brought a more competitive and winning attitude to the club.

Speaking in a recent interview, the Spain international explained that Flick has adjusted his position on the pitch, placing him deeper in the build-up phase to allow him more involvement in controlling games from the start of attacks.

“Hansi Flick changed my position on the pitch. He brought us a winning and competitive mentality,” Pedri said. “That thing he changed was about the team’s mentality.”

Pedri added that Flick deserves credit for transforming the way the team approaches match, especially in terms of intensity, discipline, and focus.

According to him, the change is not only tactical but also psychological, with players now showing a stronger belief in winning games consistently.

The midfielder also compared Flick’s approach with previous coaches, noting that former manager Luis Enrique had also used him in a deeper role to help him stay in constant contact with the ball and influence the game’s rhythm.

Under Flick, however, Pedri suggested the emphasis has gone beyond positioning, focusing more on mentality and collective responsibility across the squad.

He said this has helped Barcelona become more structured and competitive in high-pressure matches.

Barcelona’s recent coaching changes have been aimed at restoring the club’s identity after inconsistent seasons.

Flick’s arrival has been linked with a push for greater intensity, quicker transitions, and a more direct style of play, while still maintaining technical control.

Pedri’s comments show how central midfielders are often key to implementing tactical changes, especially in teams that rely on possession and ball control like Barcelona.

His deeper role allows him to dictate tempo and connect defence with attack more effectively.
