The Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) disciplinary authorities have issued a double blow to Asante Kotoko SC following misconduct incidents that occurred during their Ghana Premier League (GPL) fixture against Karela United.
In separate rulings, both Kwasi Frimpong Amos, the club’s Welfare Officer, and goalkeeper Mohamed Camara have been sanctioned for actions deemed to have brought the game into disrepute and undermined match officials.
Kwasi Frimpong Amos has been handed a ten-match ban, fined GHS 20,000, and formally warned after being found guilty of unsporting behaviour. According to the Disciplinary Committee, the incident occurred during a tense phase of the match when a red card decision sparked strong protests from the Kotoko bench.
Amos reportedly entered the field of play and forcefully seized a red card from the referee, an act that was ruled as direct interference with the authority of the match official.
The situation escalated further in post-match proceedings involving goalkeeper Mohamed Camara. The disciplinary report states that Camara was found guilty of assaulting the referee after the final whistle, following heightened tensions from the game.
As a result, he has been handed a five-match ban, fined GHS 20,000, and issued a formal warning. The sanction takes immediate effect, with the fine required to be paid within 14 days of notification.
The Committee emphasized that Camara has also been cautioned that any future misconduct will attract even more severe punishment, signaling a zero-tolerance approach to violent or abusive conduct towards match officials.
