“Lower the temperature” — Bryan Acheampong to Ken Agyapong

The Member of Parliament for Abetifi, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, has called on former New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential hopeful Kennedy Agyapong to put aside any disagreements with the party and help promote unity as the NPP prepares for the 2028 general election.

His appeal follows recent comments by the former Assin Central MP, who said he would not allow criticism from members of the NPP to intimidate or silence him.

Mr Agyapong also warned that if attempts to dismiss or challenge his claims continue, he may reveal more information.

“NPP should be careful with me, saying I am bitter. If they provoke me, I will spill the beans all over the place,” he cautioned.

In a statement issued on Friday, June 19, 2026, Dr Acheampong said he understands the disappointment that comes with losing a presidential race because he also contested in the NPP’s January 2026 presidential primary.

“I speak to you today not as a bystander to our recent contest, but as one who stood in it,” he said, adding that he understood “the weight of disappointment that follows a hard-fought campaign and the depth of emotion invested by candidates and supporters alike.”

Dr Acheampong said the party must now focus on recovering from its defeat and preparing for the future.

“Our party suffered a painful defeat in 2024. The single most important task before us between now and 2028 is to rebuild, to reunite, and to return to power.”

He also expressed concern about some of Kennedy Agyapong’s recent comments and what he described as threats directed at the party and certain individuals.

“Ken is a son of this party. A man whose energy, resources and loyalty over decades cannot be questioned.

“It is for that very reason that I urge him, respectfully but firmly, to lower the temperature and to lend his considerable influence to the work of healing rather than division.”

Dr Acheampong further appealed to supporters of both camps to avoid actions or comments that could create more divisions within the NPP.

“So, I appeal to Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, to his supporters, and to mine: let us lay down the weapons of internal warfare,” he said.

“Let us close ranks behind our flagbearer so that in 2028 we restore the New Patriotic Party to the service of the people of Ghana.”

He stressed that personal differences and grievances should not distract the party from its goal of returning to power, adding that unity remains the NPP’s strongest chance of making a successful comeback in the next election.
