Train leaders, not Just teachers – Bryan Acheampong to Colleges of Education

The Member of Parliament for Abetifi, Bryan Acheampong, has challenged Colleges of Education to go beyond training teachers and instead develop leaders who can transform communities and influence positive change.

Speaking as the guest speaker at the Founders’ Day celebration of Kibi Presbyterian College of Education on Friday, May 29, 2026, he said teacher training institutions must prepare graduates who can inspire creativity, encourage critical thinking, and help shape a better future.

Addressing participants on the theme, “Celebrating Our Founders and Shaping the Future Ethos,” Mr Acheampong pointed to the fast-changing nature of education and the growing role of technology in modern classrooms.

He noted that today’s teachers are expected to work in an environment increasingly influenced by artificial intelligence, digital learning platforms, and technology-based teaching methods.

“We are training teachers to work in a world of artificial intelligence, digital classrooms, and technology-mediated learning. The question we must ask is this: Are the student-teachers leaving this campus equipped to teach in that world?” he asked.

Mr Acheampong expressed concern about the inadequate digital infrastructure in many teacher training institutions. He said the problem should not be treated as a simple administrative issue but as a long-standing national challenge that requires urgent attention.

To address the situation, he called on government, churches, traditional leaders, alumni, parents, and guardians to work together to improve conditions in Colleges of Education across the country.

According to him, investing in digital resources and embracing innovation are essential if teacher training institutions are to produce graduates who can thrive in modern classrooms and effectively prepare future generations for a technology-driven world.
