Government spokesperson and Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, says President John Dramani Mahama does not see any urgency in appointing a substantive Defence Minister, insisting that the Ministry is currently stable and functioning under interim arrangements.
He stated that the Defence sector remains fully operational despite the absence of a substantive minister.
“There’s not been any lapse, as far as I know, in terms of Ghana’s defence architecture,” he said.
He explained that senior officials and acting leadership at the Ministry continue to manage all key operations effectively.
“The system is working. The Ministry is not in crisis. All the necessary structures are in place and functioning,” he added.
According to him, the President will make an appointment when the timing is right, stressing that there is no pressure or emergency requiring immediate action.
“The President will act when he considers it necessary. There is no urgency that demands a rushed appointment,” he noted.
Kwakye Ofosu also dismissed concerns that the delay could weaken national security, insisting that ongoing defence operations and procurement processes are continuing without disruption.
