NACOC intercepts GH¢1.18m worth of suspected cannabis in Volta Region

The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has confiscated over 2.3 tonnes of suspected cannabis, valued at approximately GH¢1.18 million, during a significant anti-drug operation in the Volta Region.

This seizure occurred in Gbi-Wegbe, a locality near Hohoe, following what the Commission referred to as an intelligence-led operation aimed at suspected drug trafficking activities in the region.

NACOC reported that officers discovered and seized 2,372.38 kilogrammes of suspected cannabis after conducting a raid on a farmhouse and warehouse believed to serve as a storage site for illegal narcotics.

The operation, executed in the early hours of Sunday, May 31, is part of the Commission’s ongoing initiatives to disrupt the production, transportation, and distribution of illicit drugs throughout the nation.

In a statement released on its Facebook page on Monday, June 1, NACOC indicated that the raid was initiated after intelligence gathering directed investigators to the facility, which was reportedly being utilized to accumulate large amounts of cannabis.

“Investigations are currently underway to identify and apprehend individuals connected to the illegal operation,” the statement said.

The Commission also reiterated its dedication to safeguarding communities from the threats posed by illicit drug use and trafficking, stressing that the fight against substance abuse and narcotics-related crimes remains a national priority.
