The Ghana Police Service has arrested eleven individuals for allegedly possessing arms and ammunition without authority in connection with the ongoing chieftaincy dispute at Adambrobe in the Eastern Region.

The suspects were picked up during a targeted operation carried out by the Aburi District Police Command on May 3, 2026, following heightened tensions in the area.

According to police, a search conducted during the operation led to the retrieval of five pump-action rifles, 23 live cartridges, a taser, six mobile phones, and a piece of body armour.

Two vehicles, including an unregistered Ford pickup and a Toyota Corolla, were also impounded as part of the operation.

Authorities say the suspects, made up of individuals from different professions, including farmers, drivers, and private security personnel, are currently in custody, assisting with investigations.

Police further disclosed that an additional suspect was later arrested after being sighted participating in a procession within the township, although the total number of persons in custody remains ten.

The arrests come amid rising tensions linked to a protracted chieftaincy dispute in Adambrobe, which has recently drawn the attention of security agencies and the courts.

A High Court in Koforidua had earlier placed restrictions on the installation of a chief in the area in an effort to maintain public order.

The Eastern Regional Police Command has assured residents of its commitment to maintaining peace and stability, urging all parties involved in the dispute to exercise restraint and resolve their differences through lawful means.
