Postecoglou gives positive update on Ronaldo ahead of Al-Nassr return

Al-Nassr head coach Ange Postecoglou has provided a positive update on Cristiano Ronaldo’s fitness, saying the Portuguese superstar is working hard and getting closer to returning to action for the Saudi Arabian club.

Ronaldo recently returned to Al-Nassr training after an extended break following his involvement with Portugal at the 2026 FIFA World Cup and his wedding. He has since resumed individual work as he prepares to regain full match fitness.

Postecoglou said Ronaldo remains an important member of his squad and that the club is taking care not to rush his return.

“Ronaldo is working very hard. He had the World Cup, and he is important to us. He has been busier than any other player, and it’s important for him to start the season ready,” the Australian coach said.

The former Tottenham and Celtic manager confirmed that Ronaldo has already completed a training session and suggested that supporters could see the forward back with the team soon.

Ronaldo missed Al-Nassr’s opening Saudi Pro League match of the 2026/27 season, where Postecoglou’s side defeated Al-Fateh 3-0. João Félix, Ângelo Gabriel and Samu Costa were among the players who helped Al-Nassr begin their title defence with a convincing victory.

Postecoglou also played down suggestions that Ronaldo’s return would force him to make major changes to his tactical approach.

He believes the forward’s arrival will instead give the team more options and create further room for improvement as the squad continues to adapt to his style of play.

“The mentality within the team is excellent, but we are still learning the style of play,” Postecoglou explained.

The coach acknowledged that some players joined the squad late, meaning Al-Nassr are still at an early stage of building their new system.
