Former France international Patrick Vieira has been officially appointed as the new head coach of Senegal.
The 49-year-old Frenchman has signed a four-year contract to take charge of the Teranga Lions and will begin work with his new coaching team.
Vieira is expected to bring his own technical staff to Senegal, while also working alongside several local coaches as part of the new setup.
The appointment marks a new chapter for Senegal as the national team looks to build on its recent achievements and maintain its position among Africa’s leading football nations.
Vieira brings significant experience from both his playing and coaching career. As a player, he enjoyed a successful career at top European clubs and was a key member of the France team that won the 1998 FIFA World Cup and Euro 2000.
He has also managed clubs in Europe, gaining experience in different football environments before taking on the Senegal job.
Alongside Vieira’s appointment, Kader Mangane has been named the new General Manager of the Senegal national team.
Mangane replaces Lamine Diatta in the role and will be involved in the administrative management of the Lions.
