The Ghana Police Service will begin the full implementation of its automated traffic law enforcement programme, TRAFFITECH-GH, from October 1, 2026.
The initiative, being implemented through the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), is aimed at tackling indiscipline on Ghana’s roads and improving compliance with road traffic laws.
Under TRAFFITECH-GH, cameras and Personal Data Assistant (PDA) devices will be used to detect various traffic offences.
The system is expected to support the Police in identifying motorists who violate traffic regulations and make the enforcement process more efficient.
Once an offence is detected, it will be reviewed before an Electronic Notice of Violation (ENV) is issued to the vehicle owner or driver through SMS.
The electronic notice will contain details of the offence committed as well as the prescribed fine.
The Police Service is therefore urging motorists, drivers and vehicle owners to comply with road traffic regulations as the system comes into full operation.
It added that the implementation of TRAFFITECH-GH forms part of broader efforts to promote safer roads and reduce road traffic crashes and related casualties.
Motorists have consequently been encouraged to observe traffic rules and exercise greater caution on the roads ahead of the October 1 rollout.
