Musiala could continue football despite neurological condition – Neurologist

Bayern Munich and Germany midfielder Jamal Musiala has received encouraging news about his football future after a leading German neurologist said the neurological condition affecting him could be treatable and may not prevent him from continuing his career.

The 23-year-old recently experienced two worrying incidents during matches within four days. He collapsed during Bayern Munich’s friendly against RB Leipzig before suffering another episode during the club’s 4-2 victory over Heidenheim.

Following the incidents, Musiala revealed that he had been diagnosed with temporary and brief “absence” episodes caused by a neurological dysfunction. He said he was receiving specialist medical care and remained optimistic about his recovery.

Speaking after Musiala’s incident, Professor Christoph Kleinschnitz, head of neurology at University Hospital Essen, said Musiala’s symptoms could potentially be linked to an epileptic seizure.

According to the neurologist, the episodes could be a form of absence epilepsy because brief periods of unresponsiveness can be associated with the condition.

However, he stressed that a definite assessment would require doctors to review all the results from Musiala’s neurological examinations.

Prof. Kleinschnitz also offered reassurance about the midfielder’s career, explaining that such a condition can be treated. He added that treatment could require long-term therapy but said Musiala could continue playing football.

The health concern comes after a difficult period for Musiala, who missed a large part of last season following a serious ankle injury suffered during the Club World Cup.

Musiala has since returned to training and remains under medical supervision as Bayern prepare for the new season.
