GFA meets Premier League clubs ahead of new season

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has held a strategic meeting with all 18 Ghana Premier League clubs as preparations gather pace for the start of the 2026/27 football season.

The engagement, which took place on Friday, July 24, 2026, was led by the GFA’s General Secretary, Prosper Harrison Addo, with support from the Acting Director of Competitions, Maxwell Caesar Kemeh.

The meeting provided an opportunity for the Football Association and club representatives to discuss key issues aimed at improving the country’s top-flight league.

A major highlight of the meeting was a comprehensive review of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season. Club officials openly shared their views on the organisation of the competition, acknowledging areas where progress had been made while also identifying challenges that require attention before the new campaign begins.

The GFA also briefed the clubs on the fixtures for the 2026/27 season, urging them to begin adequate preparations.

Discussions focused on strengthening cooperation between the Football Association and clubs to ensure a more competitive, professionally organised and commercially attractive league.

Several operational matters were discussed during the meeting, including match scheduling, stadium readiness, kick-off times, television production and broadcasting, matchday organisation, ticketing systems, security arrangements, officiating, disciplinary procedures, integrity and ethics, publicity, match reporting and the festive season fixture calendar.

Participants also explored ways to increase attendance at league matches. The discussions emphasised the need for affordable and innovative ticketing strategies while balancing fixture schedules with broadcasting commitments, travel logistics, security considerations and stadium availability.

General Secretary Prosper Harrison Addo praised the clubs for their frank and constructive contributions, describing the meeting as an important step towards building a stronger league.
