Major League Soccer (MLS) has launched an investigation into Inter Miami’s signing of Brazilian midfielder Casemiro following concerns that the club may have breached league regulations during the transfer process.
The former Real Madrid and Manchester United star recently completed a move to Inter Miami, but the deal has come under scrutiny because of issues surrounding the league’s Discovery Rights system, which gives MLS clubs priority to negotiate with certain players who are not yet registered with the league.
Under MLS rules, a player from outside the league must first be placed on a club’s Discovery List before that team can begin recruitment discussions. Reports indicate that Casemiro was listed by the LA Galaxy before Inter Miami completed his signing.
The controversy centres on whether Inter Miami followed the correct procedures before securing the Brazilian midfielder.
The club is reported to have reached an agreement with LA Galaxy to acquire Casemiro’s Discovery Rights, with reports suggesting a payment of about €880,000 was involved. However, MLS is continuing its review to determine whether any rules were broken during negotiations.
MLS has confirmed that it is gathering information regarding the matter and will not make further comments until the investigation is completed.
Casemiro, 34, arrives in Major League Soccer with an impressive career record. The midfielder won multiple major trophies during his time at Real Madrid, including five UEFA Champions League titles, before moving to Manchester United in 2022. He also remains a key figure for Brazil, having featured at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
While Inter Miami’s acquisition of the midfielder remains valid for now, the outcome of the MLS investigation could determine whether the club faces any penalties or further action.
