Charles Bulu has been appointed as the centre referee for the third edition of the Democracy Cup clash between Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak.
The highly anticipated match is scheduled for Friday, August 28, 2026, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, with kick-off set for 4:00 p.m.
Bulu will be supported by Seth Abletor as Assistant I and Richard Nartey as Assistant II. Julian Nunoo will serve as the fourth referee, while James Odoom has been appointed Match Commissioner.
The game brings together two of Ghana’s biggest football clubs and forms part of activities to commemorate 32 years of parliamentary democracy in the country.
The Democracy Cup was introduced as a sporting event to celebrate Ghana’s democratic journey while using football to promote national unity.
This year’s meeting will be particularly significant as the two clubs have shared the first two editions of the competition.
Asante Kotoko won the inaugural Democracy Cup in 2024 after defeating Hearts of Oak 2-1. Hearts responded in 2025 by winning the second edition.
The 2026 encounter will therefore give both sides another opportunity to claim bragging rights in the young competition.
The fixture is also expected to attract strong interest from supporters of both clubs, given the long-standing rivalry between the Kumasi-based Asante Kotoko and Accra-based Hearts of Oak.
