Ghana’s senior women’s national team, the Black Queens, have withdrawn from the upcoming three-nation women’s tournament scheduled to be held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, during the June FIFA international window.
The tournament, which was expected to run from June 1 to June 9, was set to feature host nation Tanzania, Ghana, and Malawi.
The competition was intended to provide the participating teams with valuable match experience ahead of major international assignments.
The Black Queens had initially included the tournament in their preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), where Ghana will be aiming to make a strong impact on the continental stage.
The competition was expected to offer the team an opportunity to assess players, improve team chemistry, and fine-tune tactical approaches ahead of future engagements.
However, Ghana has decided to pull out of the tournament and will no longer participate in the event.
While the reasons behind the withdrawal have not been officially disclosed, the decision means the Black Queens will miss the chance to face Tanzania and Malawi in the planned series of matches.
Despite the withdrawal, preparations for the team’s upcoming assignments will continue. The Black Queens are expected to remain in Accra throughout the FIFA international window, where they will continue their training programme under the technical team.
Sources close to the team indicate that efforts are being made to arrange friendly matches in Accra as an alternative to the Tanzania tournament.
These games are expected to provide the players with competitive action while allowing the coaching staff to monitor performances and assess the readiness of the squad.
The decision to stay in Ghana could also offer the technical team more control over training schedules and player welfare as preparations intensify for future competitions.
