Ashanti Regional Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, says the numerous legal and political challenges he has faced over the years have only strengthened his resolve rather than broken his spirit.
Speaking publicly after his recent court appearance over allegations involving fraud and causing financial loss to the state, Wontumi insisted that he remains unshaken despite mounting pressure surrounding the case.
“Trials don’t break me, and every battle has been fought hard,” he declared while addressing supporters and party sympathisers.
The outspoken NPP regional chairman described himself as a resilient politician who has survived numerous attacks throughout his political career, adding that he remains confident he will overcome the latest controversy.
According to him, his political opponents and critics have repeatedly attempted to tarnish his image, but he has consistently emerged stronger from every challenge.
“I have gone through many storms in politics and business, but I am still standing,” Wontumi reportedly told supporters gathered outside the court premises.
Chairman Wontumi recently appeared before the court in connection with allegations involving fraud and causing financial loss to the state in a case linked to the Ghana EXIM Bank.
Prosecutors allege that a company associated with him obtained financial support under questionable circumstances, claims his legal team has strongly denied.
His lawyers maintain that the case is politically motivated and insist their client has committed no wrongdoing.
Supporters of the Ashanti Regional Chairman, many of whom thronged the court premises during proceedings, chanted party slogans and expressed solidarity with him as the legal process continues.
Wontumi further urged his supporters not to be discouraged by the ongoing case, stressing that setbacks are part of political life.
“Every battle I have fought has been difficult, but I have never given up,” he said.
