Former English Premier League referee Anthony Taylor has taken up a new role with the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) as the country’s Elite Refereeing Director.
The experienced official has been appointed to help improve the standard of refereeing in Turkish football and bring the country’s officiating system closer to the standards set by UEFA and FIFA.
Taylor’s arrival comes at a time when Turkish football has faced several controversies surrounding refereeing decisions, with clubs and supporters frequently raising concerns over the quality and consistency of match officials.
In his new position, the former referee is expected to work on referee development, performance evaluation and improving the overall structure of officiating in Turkey.
Taylor, who became one of England’s most recognised referees, officiated several major domestic and international matches during his career.
He was a regular figure in the Premier League and also handled fixtures in European competitions, gaining experience at the highest level of football.
His knowledge of elite refereeing is expected to provide valuable support to Turkey’s efforts to modernise its officiating system and increase confidence among clubs, players and fans.
The Turkish Football Federation believes Taylor’s international experience can help create a more transparent and professional refereeing environment.
