Ghana’s Black Maidens made a strong start to their WAFU B U-17 Girls Cup campaign with an impressive 4-0 victory over Burkina Faso on Matchday 1.
The Ghanaian side showed their attacking quality in the second half after taking a narrow lead into the break.
Ghana opened the scoring in stoppage time at the end of the first half after Linda Achiaa was brought down inside the box to win a penalty.
Seidatu Wahab stepped up and calmly converted the spot-kick in the 45+3rd minute to give the Black Maidens a 1-0 lead at halftime.
The victory became more convincing after the restart as Ghana continued to put pressure on their opponents.
Gloria Amoah doubled Ghana’s advantage with the second goal before Benedicta Danso added another to put the Black Maidens firmly in control of the contest.
Burkina Faso struggled to contain Ghana’s attacking pressure as the match progressed.
The Black Maidens continued to create opportunities and eventually added a fourth goal six minutes from full time.
Hajara Adams found the back of the net in the 84th minute to complete the 4-0 victory and seal all three points for Ghana.
The result gives the Black Maidens an ideal start to their campaign as they look to make a strong impression in the regional tournament.
Ghana entered the competition as defending champions and will be hoping to build on the convincing opening win in their remaining group matches.
