The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has cautioned aspirants seeking various constituency executive positions against making cash payments to delegates or engaging in any form of inducement as the party officially opens nominations for its constituency elections.
The party says it remains committed to ensuring a transparent, credible and fair electoral process and will not tolerate acts that undermine internal democracy.
In a statement issued by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the NPP reminded aspirants and their supporters to conduct their campaigns in accordance with the party’s constitution, code of conduct and electoral guidelines.
“The party wishes to caution all aspirants against the use of money, gifts or any form of inducement to influence delegates and party members during the election process.”
The party noted that reports of vote-buying and monetisation of internal elections have the potential to damage the image of the NPP and weaken confidence in its democratic structures.
According to the statement, constituency election committees and disciplinary structures have been directed to monitor the process and take appropriate action against any individual found violating the party’s rules.
“Any aspirant found engaging in vote-buying or other unethical conduct will face the necessary disciplinary measures as provided for under the party’s constitution.”
The caution comes as nominations officially open for constituency executive positions across the country as part of the NPP’s reorganisation process following the 2024 general elections.
The party has encouraged aspirants to focus on presenting their vision, leadership qualities and programmes rather than relying on financial inducements to secure support.
“The strength of our party lies in the integrity of our internal democratic processes, and all stakeholders must work to protect that integrity.”
The NPP further urged delegates to reject attempts by candidates to influence their decisions through monetary rewards and instead vote based on competence, commitment and the ability to advance the party’s interests.
Party officials say the constituency elections form a crucial part of efforts to strengthen the NPP’s structures ahead of future political contests, including preparations for the 2028 general elections.
The statement also appealed to members to maintain unity and discipline throughout the electoral process to ensure a peaceful and successful exercise.
“We expect all aspirants, delegates and party members to conduct themselves in a manner that promotes peace, unity and the values of the New Patriotic Party.”
The NPP has expressed confidence that adherence to the rules governing the elections will help produce competent leaders capable of rebuilding and repositioning the party for the future.
