Washing Bay attendant arrested for allegedly stealing ¢46,000 for betting

Police have arrested a 21-year-old washing bay attendant for allegedly stealing more than GH¢46,000 from his friend’s bank account and using the money for betting.

The suspect, Dominic Fordjour, allegedly withdrew GH¢46,306.90 from an account belonging to Bernard Kyei without his permission.

Investigators said Fordjour was present when Kyei opened the bank account. Later, when Kyei wanted to register a mobile money account, Fordjour reportedly advised him to use “1957” as his password.

The incident came to light when Kyei visited the bank to make a withdrawal and realised that most of the money in the account was gone.

Concerned by the unexpected transactions, Kyei reported the matter to the police. Officers then began an investigation into the missing funds.

During questioning, Fordjour allegedly admitted that he had been taking money from the account whenever he needed cash.

Police investigations indicate that the withdrawals added up to GH¢46,306.90.

Investigators also claim that Fordjour told them he spent all the money on betting.
