A final-year student from Koforidua Senior High Technical School (KSTS), known as Apassa Isaac, has reportedly passed away after leaving the school premises without permission, a situation that has plunged the school community into mourning.
According to sources within the institution, Isaac, who was taking the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), completed his English Language paper before allegedly breaching school rules and going into town without authorisation.
Reports suggest that Isaac subsequently fell ill and was taken to a medical facility for treatment. Medical staff at the hospital reportedly diagnosed him with severe malaria. Despite attempts to save his life, he is said to have succumbed to the illness.
Sources familiar with the student’s behavioural history revealed that Isaac had a longstanding record of truancy and disciplinary issues. School authorities reportedly regarded him as one of the most challenging students to manage, citing numerous instances of leaving the campus without permission and being absent.
Furthermore, the sources indicated that the school’s Disciplinary Committee had, on multiple occasions, invited Isaac’s parents to meetings to discuss his behaviour and seek solutions to address his conduct. However, according to the sources, the parents allegedly did not respond to the school administration’s repeated invitations.
Isaac’s academic progress was also reportedly hindered by his ongoing absenteeism. School sources noted that he initially missed the deadline for his WASSCE registration due to issues related to his truancy. This situation necessitated the payment of a penalty before he could eventually be registered to take the examination.
Meanwhile, Isaac’s parents have reportedly come to collect his body for burial arrangements.
School authorities have not yet released an official statement regarding the incident. Nevertheless, students and staff members who were acquainted with Isaac have conveyed their shock and sorrow over this tragic development.
